about "vessel"
While the wilderness series was shot outdoors, this series was done completely indoors. This series of portraits of glass vessels started as a request from an acquaintance, but as the photographs were taken, a completely different concept arose inside the artist. The transparent vessels in front of her eyes are beautiful but petty, fleeting beings that will eventually disappear. At the same time, he realized that they are equivalent to the "earth" itself, where all living things live. If you look closely, you can see that the vessel in which the photo was taken is filled with liquid. The liquid gradually evaporates and the vessel becomes empty. But at the same time, evaporation is the process by which the melted material crystallizes in the vessel and leaves traces behind. The vessel captured by the key is reminiscent of the forms of body and spirit, and may suggest the fragility of the global environment.

about "wilderness"
What would it look like if someone followed me with a video camera while I was taking photographs in a field?

A man walks into the wilderness, where no one dares to approach him. He presses and rubs the lens of his camera against the grass and leaves of the field. He takes his time to take a picture of something, then gets up and continues walking around the area in circles. Then he comes back to the same spot and again presses the lens of the camera against the grass and leaves and rubs it. He repeats this action with a straight face. He repeats this action every day. This is a man who will be captured. Isn't this somewhat bizarre, beyond the ridiculous? Isn't the word "wandering" just right?

So where is the place that corresponds to the act of wandering? Reality, no, reality is the place where we keep walking. The other world, no, the other world is a place to reach. Wandering, I think, refers to the state of being caught, mentally and physically, between reality and the other world, and to the actions that take place there. But there is no longer any meaning in what is done there. For the past few years I have been wandering between this world and the other world. In this work, "Study for Evaporation / Crystallisation - Wilderness", I show the landscape of the wilderness that I have been photographing for the last few years. It also shows the traces of my existence as a person, who has been repeating the act without meaning to. In this sense, this work is also a self-portrait of me.

I wonder how long it has been since I started photographing what I call the wilderness, a place where the grass and the trees grow thickly, and in my work 'A Distance', nearly ten years ago, I considered the distance between me and my subject, the thicket and the grass, as a distance that cannot be translated. I have been thinking about the possibility and meaning of a branch or a leaf. Then, six years ago, I showed my work GOLD, in which I saw the brilliance of the world around us in, for example, winter-dying trees illuminated by the sun, and reflected on the true value and falsehood of light. Through the subject of the wilderness, each series of work questioned the individual and the meaning of our existence in this world. However, a setback I experienced a few years ago may have changed me. This setback left me unable to socialise, isolated from the world and society, and unable to express myself. I stopped thinking at this time. But somehow I never stopped going to the wilderness.

I love the work of Michaël Borremans, Belgian, one of the most important painters of our time. One of the reasons for this is that his figures are never defined. It is impossible to tell whether they are the living or the dead. They seem to be absorbed in thought, or to be working at something. I am strangely moved by them. I wondered if I hadn't become like Borremans' character over the past few years. I happened to be in such a situation, but I lost the meaning, the purpose and the value of life, and I just kept on shooting. However, I think that this led me to an indefinable place which I could not define.

The video camera that followed me would eventually run out of things to film, and it would turn and close in on my back.  I would try harder to press and rub the grass and leaves against the lens of the camera, not caring. At the end of the act, I am looking at my back, which the naked eye cannot see. The traces of this action appear as coloured surfaces in the wilderness landscape. Once again, in this work, my traces are imprinted in the landscape of the wilderness. I can see myself in front of the work. It is therefore a self-portrait of me.

I still use reversal film and shoot with a medium format film camera. In order to reproduce the colours of the film, I used a giclee print technique. In order to express the texture of the coloured surface which blocks the near field of the picture, I chose a Japanese paper called kozo bilayer paper as a support.
