寺川の仕事は桑の木を自宅の庭で育て、お蚕さんの掃き立てから始まる（孵化した毛蚕を蚕座に移し広げる）。
桑の葉を食べて育ったお蚕さんは、細い糸を吐きやがて白く輝く繭を作る。
糸を挽き、草木で染め、そこからやっと機織りが始まるのだ。
丹念に機に張られた経糸の間を緯糸がすり抜ける度に「画」がゆっくりとできあがっていく。
それは繭の糸をほどきもう一度繭を織るような行為とも云えるだろう。

お蚕さんを育て、繭から糸を引き、草木で染め、織る。
お蚕さんの吐く糸も、草木の色も、大自然はそれだけで美しい。
この美しさと共にある喜びを、タペストリー、ストール、額装した作品にてお届けいたします。
会期中は消えゆく養蚕文化に親しんでいただくために、繭から糸を引く実演もしていますので、どうぞお楽しみください。

Terakawa's work begins with growing mulberry trees in her garden and sweeping up silkworms (transferring the hatched hairy silkworms to the silkworm holder and spreading them).
The silkworms, which have grown up eating mulberry leaves, spit out fine threads and eventually make shining white cocoons.
The threads are ground and dyed with plants and trees, and finally the weaving process begins.
Each time the weft threads slip between the warp threads carefully stretched on the machine, a ‘picture’ is slowly created.
It can be described as the act of unravelling the threads of a cocoon and weaving the cocoon once more.

Mayumi Terakawa: Weaving Exhibition – ‘Celestial Insects’ I rear silkworms, draw thread from their cocoons, dye the yarn with plants and trees, and weave it.
The silk spun by silkworms and the colours of plants and trees—nature is beautiful in its own right.
I aim to convey the joy of being in the presence of this beauty through tapestries, stoles and framed works.
During the exhibition, I will be demonstrating the process of drawing thread from cocoons to give visitors a chance to experience the fading culture of sericulture.
