Keisuke HAYASHI / 林 圭介
I would like to explain a little about my paintings to you.
The main theme of these paintings is “ fashion and the body ”.
The painted images here are of people who have remodeled their bodies into their fashion.
Clothes as fashion are beautiful things, but are sometimes considered ornaments, not important, or not essential for human life. On the other hand, human bodies are considered essential, or serious matters of life (and sometimes internal organs can even described as grotesque).
In the real world, we have piercing and tattooing as a means of remodeling the body. So in a sense, the people in my paintings are the ultimate versions of remodeled bodies.
For these people, I feel some kind of respect and admiration, as well as fear and repulsion. This is because, with only this one fixed sense of value, there is nowhere to progress, and nothing new to be born.
In an almost violent way, the people in my paintings are existences that shake up our common sense.
