■批評文
『白き惑星の果て』 text by 竹内敬一（アートライター）
森村誠と出会ったのは高校の頃だった。
彼はクラスの問題児で、不登校を決め込むニートの走りだった。クラス委員と私とで彼の実家を訪れ、
学校に出てくるように説得しに行ったのが、彼と大きく関わるきっかけとなった。
やがて時は巡り、彼はイギリスへと旅立ち、作家としての核を築き、そして新たな境地を開き日本に
帰ってきた。帰国後、「whiteout onbook」の制作途中にそのコンセプトをヒアリングし、私はそこ
で彼の新たな作品群の片鱗に触れた。
「時間彫刻」 彼に閃いた言葉。
膨大なテキスト群の中から特定の「記号」を削除し、それと引き換えにある一つの「事象」を浮き出
させる。
記号を削り取ることによって紡がれるモザイク。まるでデジタライズされた「0」と「1」の数式のよ
うな姿が、アナクロニズムの手によって弾き飛ばされた文字達によって描かれる。
アリほどの大きさの文字と向き合い、ひたすらにその事象の出現を待つ。「時間」という密度を持った
石の中に眠る命を捜し求め、ひたすらノミを振るう彫刻家のように。
その時、彼は無為の鏡となって、何者かの姿をそこに映し出す。元々あるべき姿と寄り添うように重
なりあう世界を。それが森村誠の世界である。
それは辞書から始まり、小説を越え、地図を越え、地球儀まで繋がった。地図上の記号を削除するこ
とで、そこに新たな街が姿を現す。それは壮大で空虚なランドスケープとなって市街をフォーマット
してゆく。我々が知る日常が、気がつけばまったく見知らぬ顔をして隣に佇んでいる。そんなにじり
寄ってくるような危うさを滲ませて、静かに白い点が惑星に広がっていく。
すべての場所へと繋がるネットワーク、無為が伝播させるメッセージ。
彼のネットワークがどこまで繋がっていくのか。私は今もその軌跡を見続けている。
